OVERVIEW
The Kansas Juvenile Correctional Complex (KJCC) in northwest Topeka spans approximately 60 acres, serving as a medium- and maximum-security facility for both male and female juveniles. Typically housing juveniles adjudicated of felony-level offenses, including the state's most violent residents, KJCC utilizes a placement matrix to determine appropriate housing based on offense severity.
The complex features a reception and diagnostic unit (RDU) where all new male and female residents undergo a 21-day assessment to determine treatment needs. Divided into east and west campuses for male and female residents respectively, KJCC comprises various areas including diagnostic/classification, maximum and medium-security housing, and secure female housing. The facility operates within a secure perimeter fence and is currently funded to accommodate 235 beds.
